Our two Year 10 classes and Years 11 and 12 each took part in a total of four workshops on the topics of housing, health insurance, taxes and finance.
The students learned what to look out for when searching for an apartment or house, what the difference is between cold and warm rent and what other costs and pitfalls can be hidden in a tenancy agreement.
In the second workshop, questions about our healthcare system in Germany were clarified. What is the difference between private and statutory insurance? What services are covered by the various health insurance companies?
The tax workshop explained who has to pay it and why, what types of tax there are and what the tax return is all about.
On the subject of finance, the pupils learned about retirement provision, types of savings, funds and shares. The topic of insurance was also important here. Which ones do I absolutely need? They also found out what the SCHUFA score is all about.
Although the pupils were initially skeptical about what they would learn on such a day, they quickly realized that it was about topics that would affect them in the near future. Urgent questions were asked and expertly answered. The feedback was very positive and they even asked for further information.
All in all, the workshops were a great success. The aim was not to turn the pupils into experts in these fields, but to give them an insight into the "real world".
