Our teacher, Mr. Kretzschmar, asked the local court in Zwickau and indeed, it worked! Our class 7aIOR was invited to a trial in a criminal case. It was about attempted robbery and drug trafficking and the defendant was facing a possible sentence of at least one year in prison.
The court hearing on May 5, 2025 offered everything you could wish for: A strict indictment, a witness examination with nasty questions from the defense lawyer, a secret conversation between the judge, prosecutor and lawyer in the judge's chambers and, at the end, the completely contradictory pleas from the prosecution and defense.
We listeners felt a special atmosphere in the large building and also in the hearing room: it was a little oppressive. It started with the strict security check at the entrance. When the judge entered the room in his black robe, we had to stand up and otherwise keep absolutely quiet. The rules of conduct in court became quite exhausting after 2 hours. Nevertheless, we persevered and are now one valuable experience richer: a special excursion that will probably remain in our memories.
