First week of the 8IOR workshop days

For one week, the students of class 8 of the International Secondary School Reinsdorf were able to try out different occupational fields at the BSW Werdau. In small groups, they alternated between the fields of wood, metal, electrical engineering, care & social services, hotel and catering, trade & storage, administration/IT and education.

In the various occupational fields, the students were told how long an apprenticeship takes, what requirements must be met and where there are suitable training centers in the area.

Of course, the students were also allowed to try out practical skills. For example, a construction angle was made in the wood area and the desire to cook was awakened in the hotel and catering area.

In electrical engineering, the basics of the electric circuit were explained once again and then an airplane was soldered from a piece of wire using an available construction plan. To do this, the insulation had to be removed and the parts cut to size and bent using flat nose pliers and side cutters. The individual parts were then soldered together after an introduction.

In the area of metal, too, the girls and boys alike surpassed themselves. They were allowed to weld virtually. They were given a helmet in which they could see how they welded a virtual workpiece. Their classmates were able to follow the process via a projector on the wall.

We would like to thank BSW Werdau for the exciting week and the motivated instructors who gave the students a very clear understanding of each of the occupational fields.

We'll be back in March, and then students can each spend a full day delving into their four favorite career fields and learning more about them.
