To be precise, we visited the large Krebsgraben wastewater pumping station. The school class was then divided into two groups on site. An employee of the waterworks first led one group into the raking plant and explained to them here that the incoming water is cleaned of the first coarse dirt at this location. Then the students followed the colleague into the pumping station. Here they learned a lot of interesting facts and were able to take a close look at the pumps. Since the wastewater in Zwickau does not reach the treatment plant by a natural gradient, it has to be transported there with the help of pumping stations.
In the meantime, the second group was able to take a look at the modern fleet of vehicles. The girls and boys were given insights into the valuable technology on the vehicles and they were even allowed to take a seat in the driver's cab. The students were also able to try out their skills in practice. Together with the experts and the appropriate tools, they were allowed to try out whether their muscle power was sufficient to lift a manhole cover. I can reveal that they managed itJ.
And in connection with the explanations of the activities and tasks in a pumping station, there was of course also the information about which professions can be practiced here.
We would like to thank the employees of the Krebsgraben wastewater pumping station for the interesting insights into the functioning of the plant and into their daily work.
