Intercultural Bridges – Student Exchange with Spain

Our exciting student exchange between Germany and our partner school in L'Olleria, Spain, took place during the week of May 5th to 11th. Over several days, we and our teachers were able to experience a fascinating journey through culture, history, and community.

Our exchange began on Monday, when the German students arrived in their host families after a long day of traveling. There was already a warm atmosphere at the first meeting, which laid the foundations for a varied and enjoyable week.

On Tuesday, a visit to the school was on the agenda. The pupils took part in lessons and gained an insight into the Spanish school system. As a Hungarian class was also visiting at the same time as our student exchange, we held a Spanish-Hungarian-German three-country city rally after class. In the afternoon, we were offered a workshop about one of the most culturally and historically significant cities in the region, the district capital of Xativa. We learned a lot about Xativa's sights, but also about its exciting history.

Wednesday finally took the group to Xativa and in the late afternoon to Gandia for a relaxing visit to the beach. During the excursions, we were able to experience the impressive architecture and Moorish history at first hand.

On Thursday, the focus was on the city of Valencia, with the Spanish teachers preparing us for a workshop on the impressive buildings and culture of Spain's third largest city. A special highlight of this day was the visit from the mayor of L'Olleria. We also visited the region's last glass production facility and the associated glass museum to explore the traditional craft and history of the region.

Friday was a day full of new impressions and scientific discoveries. Today we finally went to Valencia! Our group visited the monuments we had learned about in the workshop and got a great impression of Spanish architecture and its history. Afterwards, the group went to the Prince Philip of Valencia Science Museum, where we were able to carry out exciting experiments and learn more about technology and science.

The last day offered the opportunity to get to know the host families even better and to deepen the new friendships.

It was an emotional farewell, but also a day full of wonderful memories.

The student exchange was an enriching experience for everyone involved. We, the German students from the International School Reinsdorf, were able to improve our language skills, make new friends and gain an insight into everyday life in Spain.

We would like to thank everyone who made this exchange possible and are already looking forward to the next joint projects!
