Museum in a clip - at Wildenfels Castle

When kids ask us "What do you want to do when you grow up?" we often get the answer, "Maybe something to do with media." The 7th grade class of the International Secondary School Reinsdorf had the chance to try out whether the media field could really be something they enjoy. They took part in the "Museum in a clip" project.

The project is about the students getting to know a museum from their area better and making small video clips in the historical premises themselves.

One of the participating museums is selected in advance and explored with a museum representative on the project day. A few days earlier, the class watched an informational film that explained the most important camera angles and showed them what to look for when shooting a film.

The students visited Wildenfels Castle on June 26, 2023 and learned many exciting facts about the history of the historic building. They were allowed to look around the castle and the castle grounds and already gather initial ideas about what kind of clip could be shot here.

Then there was the briefing by the experts of the film team. The class was told what they had to pay attention to when filming with the tablet and which camera angles achieved which effect. After the class was divided into four small groups, they received their storyboard. During the breakfast break in the castle courtyard, the students filled their storyboard with sketches and the content of their film story. Then it was finally time to film. After a good hour, all groups had their scenes in the can.

Now it was a matter of editing the film, adding the appropriate music and inserting effects. During filming and editing, the students were always accompanied and supported by the professionals.

At the end, all groups proudly presented their films. The feedback that the students gave each other was very positive. They saw very different films and each film was unique in its own way.

Now the masterpieces can be admired on YouTube (Museum in a clip).

On this day, the class not only learned what it means to produce a film. They also learned about the history of the castle, how to properly handle the appropriate media and how a team has to work together within a project so that something great can be created. They were allowed to be creative and have fun making something of their own. Many thanks to the team of the "Museum in a clip" and of course to the castle Wildenfels. It was a great experience.
