Looking back on Remembrance Day: Pupils set an example of remembrance and international understanding

On November 17, 2024, our community celebrated Volkstrauertag, a day of remembrance and reminder. Under the theme "Passing on remembrance to the next generation", SIS Reinsdorf was once again an active part of this special event this year.

Our pupils contributed to the commemoration with sensitive contributions. After an ecumenical service in St. Jakobus Church, the fallen of the two world wars were commemorated with a wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial of the municipality of Reinsdorf. The mayor, Mr. Steffen Ludwig, recalled the importance of common and peaceful coexistence with a view to the current conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.

Amelie Eibisch, Leon Drescher and Luis Seidel from Class 7 of the International Secondary School Reinsdorf recited poems in front of around 50 fellow citizens to express the pain of loss, the hope for peace and the importance of reconciliation. Through the multilingualism of a poem recited by Amelie, our international schools showed that remembrance knows no borders. A strong sign of the international dimension of Remembrance Day and a message of hope: that we can all stand together for peace and humanity - today and in the future.
