Vocational orientation of the class 8IOR in December 2022

In March 2023 our class 8 of the International Secondary School Reinsdorf will go to the BSW in Werdau. There, their workshop days will take place in which they can try out one occupational field of their choice per day. In order to be able to make a suitable choice, the students got to know several occupational fields in December.

We invited experts and explored companies.

The visit to Linamar Motorkomponenten GmbH in Reinsdorf was the prelude. In beautiful winter weather, we walked about 45 minutes to the company. There, the students were divided into 2 groups, were allowed to look behind the scenes of the company one after the other and received information about the company and the apprenticeships at Linamar. Samia and Paul described their impressions in a separate articleJ.

The next step was the last week before the Christmas vacations.

Ms. Alvermann and her team from the DPFA Zwickau started the event. The team consisted of a colleague and three students. They showed the students very clearly what it means to choose a career in the social sector. They provided detailed information about the school-based training to become an educator and a social assistant. Particularly exciting were the views of the students of the DPFA as well as the fact that our kids could try themselves out practically in this area. They were allowed to change a baby's diaper or try out a balloon to see how it feels to shave another person. There was a lot of exchange, smaller tasks were worked on in groups and, of course, questions could be asked.

After a breakfast break, we continued with our career orientation. Together with the class teacher of the 8th grade, we made our way to the nearby construction yard of the company Wolf Straßen- und Tiefbau GmbH. Once there, we were given an initial insight into the company and the various professions by means of a presentation. In this context, we were able to meet Germany's best road builder 2022, Tom Schmutzler. He completed his apprenticeship at the company and continues to be employed by Wolf Straßen- und Tiefbau GmbH, something the company is naturally very proud of. After a chat with Mr. Schmutzler, it was off to the really big machines. The Wolf family made it possible that almost all vehicles and construction machines belonging to the company found their place for us in the construction yard. This gave us a great overview and the highlight was, of course, to try out an excavator and marvel at the technology of these machines. All of the students' questions were of course answered patiently.

The following day, the express laboratory of Phänomenia Stollberg made its way into the classroom. For four hours, the students were able to try things out. They had to feel, smell and taste various things and perform experiments in the field of natural sciences. There was puzzling, fiddling and lots of new things to try out.

By means of work assignments, which the students always filled out for the activities, the experience was reflected on personally for everyone. We learned a lot and gained insights into a wide variety of occupational fields. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all participants for their great support. They all put a lot of thought into how they could bring the students closer to the respective professions. Many thanks for that.
